Here are answers to questions we hear often about the Roll20 Log Editor. If you can't find what you need, please use the contact at the bottom of the page.

What is a Roll20 log, and why clean it up?

A Roll20 log is the chat history from a TRPG session. An untidied log is mixed with dice-system messages, hidden messages, broken images, and repeated names and avatars, so it looks messy if shared as-is. This tool cleans those parts up easily so the log becomes readable and ready to share.

Is my data safe? Where is it processed?

It's safe. The log you paste is processed entirely inside your browser. The chat content is never transmitted to or stored on the author's server, so the author cannot see your log content.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. That said, the tool edits the log on one side and previews it on the other, so it is more comfortable on a wider desktop screen. On mobile, the layout stacks the two panes top and bottom.

Why are some messages "not editable"?

Messages that contain Roll20-specific features (such as dice rolls or table rolls), or that use special CSS styling, have a complex structure that can break when edited. For safety, editing is restricted for these messages.

How do the *, **, *** formatting marks work?

Just like in Roll20: wrap text in a single * for italic, double ** for bold, and triple *** for italic + bold. You can use this formatting directly in the message edit dialog.

Is this affiliated with Roll20?

No. This is a fan-made, unofficial tool and is not affiliated with Roll20 or its owner (The Orr Group, LLC). "Roll20" is a trademark of its owner.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Please send bug reports or feature requests through our feedback form (https://forms.gle/jzVf69jo2gJ1fDpMA). You can also reach us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/factory_machine).

Is it free?

Yes, this tool is free. Ads are shown to support its operation, but all editing features are available at no cost.
